Kavia Moulded Products recruited Iain Hill as Business Development and Sales Manager in May 2012. In the July management meeting it was concluded that it would be beneficial to improve the Kavia workforce’s awareness of the role and its goals through Iain introducing himself and his background to the staff and getting to know the manufacturing team, two persons at a time. Each session took approximately one hour and covered the following agenda:

- The role of Business Development Sales Manager: to research and market new customers, to support existing account development and improve operational efficiencies, to re-establish rail and tram sector components and to develop new products. Iain reports monthly to the directors and quarterly at the management meeting.
- Approach: how Iain researches and approaches prospective new companies, decides what kind of account development and operational efficiencies to work on and which new product development and routes to market to plan.
This is all part of a three year business development plan managed by Iain and the Kavia directors. The first year involves extensive fact finding, as Kavia has a broad range of customers and components for Iain to familiarise himself with. Notable thus far is how loyal and conscientious the manufacturing team are: with an average of 13 years with the company – and more than half the staff with over 15 – there is a tremendous amount of experience and care for Kavia customers to draw upon. This is reflected in customer testimonials that Kavia requires virtually no supervision whilst achieving high delivery and quality scores and maintaining flexible manufacturing solutions.
